An in-depth guide to NewViewNews:

To make an account, click the “REGISTER” button in the top right corner.
Enter a username, an email, and a password. Confirm that you are at least 13 years old and that you have read the Privacy Policy and Terms of Conditions.

Writing an Article

Navigate to the “write” page.
If you’d like to use bolded, italicised, underlined, or superscripted text, use the key at the bottom of the page and here.

Make sure your article has a title. Also, include any sources you’d like to have in the optional box below your article.
Before publishing, pick a thumbnail and use our cropping feature to get it to the right size.
If you’re ready, hit “publish” to finalize and publish your article.
If you’re not done with your article and want to come back to it later, hit “save.” You can find it on your profile at any time.

Thumbnail Specifications

Thumbnails must be cropped to a 1.66:1 aspect ratio with minimum dimensions of 640x386 and a maximum size of 1mb.

Categorizing Your Article

You’ll have to select a topic for your article (politics, technology, other, etc) as well as specify whether it is a news, features, or opinion article.
A news article, in the broadest sense, contains objective information about current events. Typically, this article would be reporting on the basics of something that has happened very recently and is devoid of your own subjective opinion.
A features article is usually a deep dive into an interesting topic that isn’t as time-sensitive as a news piece. Some examples are personal profiles, analyses, how-tos, and many more.
There may be some crossover between these two categories: these are known as news features. We suggest labeling these under features, but you may use your own discretion as to what you think it best.
Finally, an opinion article is where you give your opinion on any topic. While the content of your article is fundamentally subjective, a good opinion piece is well-structured and founded on facts from reputable sources to support your argument.

NewViews

Writing NewViews

If you see an article you’d like to respond to, you can use the “NewView” feature to pen your own response.
To do this, click the arrow on the right side of the screen. You’ll be prompted to choose whether you are agreeing, disagreeing, or responding in some way to the article, and then you can start writing as if it were a normal article.
If you’d like, you can write your NewView while splitting the screen with the previous article, but you can toggle this feature off by clicking the arrow in the middle of the screen.

Reading NewViews

To view the NewViews of an article, click the eye icon to the right of it, and all of the responses to it will appear.
When on the front or explore page, you can identify that an article is a NewView by looking for a little eye in the corner.

Front Page

Articles with the most points are shown on the front page. In an effort to show fresh content, each article has a front page “lifespan” of one month, meaning it’s eligible for the frontpage up to one month from when you post it. After that, it can still be found through the explore page, the search function, or on the author’s profile

Profile Page

On your profile page, you can see, edit, and delete articles you have saved and published. You can also edit your profile picture.
On other users’ profile pages, you can see a catalogue of all of the articles they’ve published.

Upvote Etiquette

Upvotes determine the prominence of an article on the site. In an effort to preserve intellectual pluralism on our site, we ask that you do not base your vote on whether or not you disagree with an idea, but whether or not the article was well-written or made an objectively compelling or interesting argument.
If you disagree or have another perspective on a story and would like to contribute to the discussion, NewViews and comments are the way to do so.

Blog

To read updates from the site’s creators, click the Blog button at the top of the screen. Here you can find content updates from Harshawn and development logs from Navid.
